The CA 72-4 test measures the level of Cancer Antigen 72-4 in your blood, a protein that may be elevated in some types of cancer, especially gastric (stomach) and ovarian cancers. It is most commonly used to monitor how well treatment is working or to detect possible recurrence after treatment. Elevated levels do not always mean cancer is present, as levels can sometimes rise in certain non-cancerous conditions.
